Nestled in the lap of a region called “Prayaga” in Hindu mythology, the city of Allahabad is a sacred place to the devout Hindus the world over. Several festivals are traditionally held in Allahabad, but the most important among them is the celebration of the kumbha mela. A mela is a gathering of the faithful. The kumbha mela is held in commemoration of the struggle held between the Gods and the Demons for the cup of divine nectar, amrit, which bestows immortality on those who drink it. NEWS FOR THE DAY : |
