Rudra Yaga—The Fire Ceremony
Forty feet below us the Ganges flows quietly, invisible in the near-darkness of early morning. But even if there were light to view it, on this particular morning the river and our entire campus would remain unseen. We are enveloped in a dense fog. It is a fog that may leave as quickly as it has come, but for the moment it surrounds our group as we gather for the first fire ceremony of the Kumbha Mela, and it gives us the sense that we are alone.
